Share Your Joy and Wealth this Holiday Season by Sponsoring a Family for Christmas!
Each year, for the past 10+ years, our family have sponsored needy families in East Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam for Christmas. We participate in hamper programs offered by each city and we provide gifts, a food hamper and food certificates to get all the trimmings for holiday dinners to families who cannot afford Christmas.
This is a cause dear to my heart as my parents were new immigrants to Canada more than 30 years ago and with 6 little kids to feed, all under 9 years, there was no extras for gifts or stockings. The generosity of our local church and community members came through for us. They put together stockings, gifts and a food hamper for our family for those initial years after our first arrival. I was 7 when we received our first Christmas hamper and I still remembered how wonderful it felt that Santa did not forget us even though we were so new to Canada.
Now we give back what we can. Our two young kids also help with the Christmas hampers whether donating some of their gifts received from friends and families or helping wrap gifts and gather hamper items. The kids have a fun time and they get to learn about helping others less fortunate and the need for charity, generosity, and compassion.
